New Logo small - Copy.png

The National Association of Black Military Women (NABMW) is an organization of women located throughout the country who are veterans or current members of the United States Armed Forces.

The Brooklyn chapter of the NABMW officially became a chapter on February 17, 2017.

The mission of the organization is to tell HERSTORY.  The term HERSTORY has come to mean oral, written, recorded and filmed stories of African Americans who are serving or served in military service.  We are here to see that these stories are collected, preserved and used to educate the public about the role of the women...past, present and future.

The Beginning

In July 1976 a group of 21 of women who served in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) and Women's Army Corps (WAC) during World War II, Korean and Vietnam Wars got together at Lucille Brown's house in Hampton, Virginia . At this chartered meeting, the group decided to locate and invite other former service women to a reunion that was held in 1978 in Dallas, Texas.
